چکیده
Abstract Introduction Delta power is a known indicator of sleep drive and pressure. Non-REM delta increased in adults with sleep-disordered breathing, lowered by treatment continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Our purpose was to investigate the effect tonsillectomy adenoidectomy on children apnea. Here we report results from pilot study phase this project. Methods A retrospective performed using consecutive between age 5 15 years presenting our Sleep Disorders Clinic October 2019 2022 who underwent for obstructive apnea whom polysomnographic data available before after procedure. Spectral density analysis polysomnography determine power. Results total 41 were screened appropriate studies 10 children. The mean prior surgery 2687.8±1081, while 1737.9±522.9. Paired t-test showed significant large (~65%) reduction (Cohen’s D 0.91; p=0.018). Conclusion statistically adenoidectomy. This finding consistent expected improvement correction represents potent new metric measure biological efficacy impact Support (if any) None

Dexmedetomidine infusion for analgesia and prevention of emergence agitation in children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.
BACKGROUND Dexmedetomidine, a specific α(2) agonist, has an analgesic-sparing effect and reduces emergence agitation. We compared an intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion with bolus fentanyl to reduce perioperative opioid use and decrease emergence agitation in children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome undergoing adenotonsillectomy (T&A). METHODS One hundred twenty-two patients with ob...
متن کاملUpdated systematic review of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome.
OBJECTIVE Perform an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the cure rate of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) for pediatric obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). METHODS A systematic review was performed to identify English-language studies that evaluate the treatment of pediatric (age < 20 years) OSAHS patients with T&A using polysomnography as a metric of...
متن کاملCoblation Intracapsular Tonsillectomy and CoblationComplete Tonsillectomy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Objective: Total tonsillectomy and intracapsular tonsillectomy are common procedures for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children. The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of coblation intracapsular tonsillectomy (ICT) and coblation complete tonsillectomy (CT) as treatments for OSA. Study design: A retrospective study of all the children ages 2 18 years wit...
متن کاملIn reference to Is polysomnography required prior to tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea versus mild sleep-disordered breathing in children?
In a recent best practice guideline, the usefulness of polysomnography (PSG) prior to tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (TþA) for children with suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was discussed. We certainly agree with the conclusion of the article that the value of PSG for the diagnosis of childhood OSA compared to history and physical examination needs more study. Indeed, PSG is an expensiv...
متن کاملCaffeine in children with obstructive sleep apnea.
BACKGROUND Children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have a higher rate of adverse post-extubation respiratory events, such as laryngospasm, upper airway obstruction, apnea, desaturation and/or need for re-intubation. They are overly sensitive to sedatives and narcotics. Although the etiology of OSA is primarily obstruction (mechanical or neuromuscular), a central element may contribute to OS...
